The Jacobson House Native Art Center is operated by the non-profit Oscar Jacobson Foundation. The Center is located in the former residence of Swedish-born Oscar Jacobson (1882-1966), first director of the School of Art at Oklahoma University and a 1949 inductee into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. In 1926, Jacobson mentored the Kiowa Five American Indian artists ushering in the beginning of the Native American Art Movement. The Jacobson House was built in 1917 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1926. The House is also on the Oklahoma Historical Society's Landmarks List and is an official site for the 2007 Oklahoma statehood centennial celebration. Services offered to tour groups can include an American Indian meal with performances of dancers, storytellers, flute players and history presentations. Dec 4- Dec 24 from 10am-6pm the Jacobson House Native Art Center will hold their annual Scandinavian Indian Christmas exhibition. This exhibition celebrates Native Expression, featuring the paintings of Bert Seabourn, Petas (Comanche), and Tony Tiger (Sac & Fox/Seminole).
