Art Deco Tour
Julia Moore and Mari Martin invite you to see Tulsa's maze of architectural wonders - relish in the art deco grandeur of the city often called "America's Most Beautiful City!" Learn about the money hungry wildcatters who flocked to Indian Territory and turned an Indian prairie into a thriving city of intrigue and elegance. Oil - oil and more oil "black gold" made millionaires out of both native Indians and incoming white and black settlers. The legacy of these influential men is on display throughout the city. Come and explore the mysteries of Tulsa with us...Wow is Guaranteed!
Tulsa's "Wonderland of Art Deco" is a world travel destination. Built during the oil rush days of the 1920's when wildcatting was the name of the game, Tulsa developed in an unexpected way. World traveling Tulsans, with millions in their pockets, created a city on the Arkansas River that matched many of Europe's finest. Nothing was too good or too expensive...cost was not object! The result is a legacy of magnificent office buildings, hotels, homes, public buildings and stories of unbelievable background and intrigue.
"Experience" Tulsa through any one of our 60 tours. All tours can be customized whether walking or renting transportation as well as group size and time constraints. Let us take you back in Tulsa Time where we're a "walking and a talkin" about Indians, fabulously wealthy oil men and the glories they left behind...it's mind boggling!
"Tulsa is a World Destination" for Art Deco and is our number one requested walking tour. You will see three blocks of the most magnificent architecture you can imagine. Decorated within, by the finest European craftsman of their time by using the most ornate marbles, bronzes and decorating techniques. Anything our wealthy travelers spotted during their world travels was replicated in "Tulsey Town".
Notable buildings on the downtown walking tour include: The Philcade, The Philtower, Atlas Life, Mid-Continent and Kennedy buildings.
Tour Time: 1 1/2 hours
