Central Oklahoma
Day 1
We begin our touring in Oklahoma at the Citizen Potawatomie Nation Heritage Center. Here we get a glimpse into the heritage of the tribe and enjoy a performance by a tribe member in full regalia. We check into our hotel with time to freshen up before departing for our dinner included this evening. (D)
Day 2
Continental breakfast included before we depart the hotel. We begin our day getting to know a special entrepreneur. Betty Wood is the owner of the “Pepper Plant” Matador Processors. We tour this production facility, where the taste tempting Chile Rellenos and many other satisfying products are created and shipped all over the United States and to several foreign countries.
Matador takes great pride in taking the Chile Relleno from “field to finish”. Next, stop is Express Ranch where we meet some of the world’s most beautiful black Clydesdale horses in North America. These horses have been in many parades including the 2007 Rose Bowl Parade. Each of the horses has its own distinct personality we will be amazed at how incredibly gentle these giants are. Lunch is included this afternoon. A self guided tour at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art takes us thru one of the most comprehensive collections of Chihuly glass in the world including a fifty-five foot tower at the museum entrance. Dinner is on our own before we return to the hotel for the evening. (CB,L)
Day 3
Continental breakfast at the hotel before we begin our day at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Here we can walk down the streets of Prosperity Junction, a turn-of-the-century Western town. Visit The American Cowboy Gallery, the American Rodeo Gallery, and the Western Performers Gallery. Next we visit the National Weather Center and learn about “The National Weather Service (NWS)”. We get to know what the NWS does, where the data comes from and where the data goes. The Center provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas. We also have a chance to see some of the equipment used to chase storms and to track the weather. The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum are dedicated to honor “those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever” by the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The Field of Empty Chairs remembers the 168 people lost in the bombing. See the monumental bronze-clad Gates of Time towering over the reflecting pool; learn the story of the Survivor Tree and visit the museum to remember the devastation and inspiring hope and healing. Oklahoma City is quickly becoming recognized for its world-class rowing. As we tour the Chesapeake Boathouse on the Oklahoma River we will learn about the dragon boats and the rowing teams. A narrated Water Taxi ride on the mile-long Bricktown Canal will provide us with a spectacular view of the city center. Dinner is included in Bricktown. After dinner we make another stop at the Oklahoma City National Memorial to see the memorial lit at night where the lights of the Field of Chairs honor each of the 168 lives that were lost before we return to our hotel for the evening. (CB,D)
Day 4
Continental Breakfast included before we depart the hotel. This morning we will enjoy a refreshing stop at Country Cottage Primitives Lavender Farm where Lavender refreshments await us. Here how two small lavender plants turned into a dream business for Debi and Lucky Seaton. They want their guests to have a sense of escape as we smell the lavender, and explore the gift shop full of hand crafted items, candles, primitive dolls and pillows.
