“The Voice of Black Wall Street”
3 day – 2 night tour of Tulsa area

Princetta Newman is the founder of a specialty touring service known as Black Wall Street, Inc. Being directly related to some of the successful individuals who lived in Tulsa during the heyday of the Greenwood District, she recognizes that the opportunity to share the story of Black Wall Street, not focusing on the riot. “Notice we said the history of Black Wall Street, not the riot on Greenwood,” Princetta is quick to clarify. The history of the area known now for a riot that lasted only four days has an actual history of 92 successful years – a history that is being celebrated by this new tour company dedicated to telling “the rest of the story.”

Day 1
Welcome to Tulsa
Your group will be met in Tulsa and escorted to the historic Greenwood District. During the oil boom of the 1910s, the area of northeast Oklahoma around Tulsa flourished—including the Greenwood neighborhood, which came to be known as "Black Wall Street", and was home to several prominent black business owners, many of them multimillionaires. We will begin at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, the state's only facility devoted to gospel, jazz & blues musicians with Oklahoma ties such as jazz instrumentalist Charlie Christian, and opera star and gospel singer Leona Mitchell. We will journey back in time and meet prominent player of the time who will relate the stories of their own successes and share what life was like during this era for the people of Greenwood. Hear the music, see the vehicles, and taste the foods that encompassed the district that has made the area world-renowned. The package includes “Getting a Shot of Black Wall Street” personalized photo as a memento.

Dinner will be hosted in the Vernon A.M.E. est. 1905, a historic church ravaged by the 1921 Riot. A taste tempting Oklahoma Bar-B-Que Feast on the menu with choices of succulent (fall off the bone) ribs, chopped beef, chicken and Oklahoma’s specialty smoked bologna. Enjoy side dishes of Cole slaw, baked beans, bread, or a stuffed baked potato. Meal includes beverage and dessert.

The group will check into the hotel (3-star) for a chance to rest and freshen up before a special evening with area ministers and youth groups performing, and coffee and dessert will be served.

Overnight in Tulsa.

At the Tulsa Air & Space Museum & Planetarium, we will experience Tulsa’s rich history in the aerospace industry by exploring 19,000 square feet of exhibit space and educational displays in the museum, then sit back in the planetarium and enjoy a trip to the outer limits of the universe in the new ESky Theater.

We will lunch at Pauline’s, a well-known all-you -an -eat buffet, featuring golden fried fish, baked and fried chicken, some pasta-meat dish, fresh salad, and always a choice of six well-seasoned vegetables, and delicious desserts.

This afternoon we will depart for one of Oklahoma’s historic All Black towns to visit 177-year-old Black Creek Indian Church, and meet the present Pastor who is a 4th generation member of the founding family. We will learn “The Lord’s Prayer” in the Creek Indian language and costumed re-enactors will share the history, crafts, and traditional Black Creek Indian foods.
