Located in northeastern Oklahoma, Rogers County was named for Clement Rogers, a prominent legislator, judge and father to Will Rogers. In 1882, the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway was built in Rogers County, then in 1889, the Kansas and Arkansas Valley Railway came in. In 1903, artesian wells were discovered in the area and were promoted as having healing powers. During the height of their popularity, the wells brought many visitors to Rogers County and boosted its economy.

Will Rogers was born in Rogers County near Oologah in 1879. His birthplace at Dog Iron Ranch near Oologah includes a 400-acre living history ranch that offers group tours. The Will Rogers Memorial Museum in Claremore features memorabilia and showcases the life of Will Rogers, while the Oologah Historical Museum contains photos and artifacts from pioneer families in the area.

Historic Route 66 runs through Rogers County with interesting landmarks along its path, including the Blue Whale near Catoosa, and Totem Pole Park in Chelsea.
