In 1991, Oklahoma artist Nick Calcagno transformed the walls of Osborn Drugs, housed in a century-old brick building in Miami, Oklahoma. Calcagno, former chair of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M’s department of communications, teamed up with ten other local artists and volunteers to tell Miami’s history through artwork displayed in this “Visual Reflections” mural. The artists painted historical figures like Miami founder Wayland C. Lykins and local icons like “The Chief” newspaper to best represent this Oklahoma town.

Twenty years later, the Osborn Drug building amassed enough damage from water and natural aging processes that it called for a new wall. In 2012, Jessica Stout, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M artist, spearheaded the restoration process of the accompanying revised mural.  Stout, students and community members created a smaller replica to replace Calcagno’s original mural, this time using industrial strength enamel paint on aluminum signboards to withstand future weather. In September 2013, the Miami community gathered to dedicate and celebrate this restored historical mural.
