The City of Commerce proudly displays the legacy of its hometown baseball hero, Mickey Mantle. At the Commerce High School baseball field, a spectacular nine ft tall bronze sculpture by artist Nick Calcagno portrays the Hall of Fame baseball star batting left-handed. See this work of art up close to embrace the impact of Mantle’s influence or catch a glimpse of the tribute while travelling Mickey Mantle Boulevard. Through Commerce, Route 66 is called Mickey Mantle Boulevard as an extra salute.

Mantle was an Oklahoma native who became one of baseball’s greatest players. Also known as “The Commerce Comet” and “The Mick”, Mantle built his career by practicing switch-hitting at his childhood home with his father and grandfather. An old tin barn still stands on the property with dents that were imprinted as Mantle refined his skills. In 1951 and at the age of 19, he began an awe-inspiring career with the New York Yankees as a right fielder. Mantle’s career ended after the 1968 season with 536 home runs, seven World Series wins, numerous records, several most valuable player distinctions and more. In 1974, he was honored with an induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame. A visit to Mickey Mantle’s Memorial Statue invites nostalgia for lifelong fans and a link to the past for younger generations.
