Around Madill you’ll find boutique shopping, delicious food and great gaming, but outdoor fun and adventure is the main draw. Whether you’re looking to do some fishing, get your high-octane thrills on the water or just enjoy some peace and quiet in nature, you’ll find plenty of opportunities for lakeside fun in Madill.

Little Glasses Resort & Marina

If it’s waterfront relaxation you’re after, you’ll find it at Little Glasses Resort & Marina. This family-friendly resort is one of Lake Texoma’s premier recreation sites, featuring opportunities for boating, RV or tent camping, cabin stays and outdoor recreation. With 16 fully-furnished cabins and mobile homes within a five-minute walk to the lake, along with waterfront campsites where you can sleep under the stars, Little Glasses is the perfect place to enjoy yourself with friends and family during your Lake Texoma outing.

The resort is a short drive from the nearby Fort Washita Historic Site & Museum, where you can step back in time for a day of historical exploration. This Civil War-era fort was built in 1842 to protect the forcibly-removed Chickasaw and Choctaw tribes from marauding plains Indians whose territory and way of life were threatened by rapid western expansion. Some of Fort Washita’s original structures were restored by the Oklahoma Historical Society in 1962, preserving this fascinating slice of Oklahoma history for future generations. While you’re there, be sure to keep an eye out for the ghost of Aunt Jane, a woman who was murdered by thieves sometime before 1861 and whose ghost is rumored to haunt the ruins of the fort in her flowing white gown.

Texoma Shores Resort

Texoma Shores Resort is another fantastic option for kicking back at the lake during your Madill excursion. Explore 115 acres of outdoor fun at this resort featuring a 16-unit motel and four cabins, along with full RV hookups and sites for tent camping. Take a dip at the resort’s pristine swim beach, launch your boat or cast your line from the fishing pier at this lakeside retreat on the shores of beautiful Lake Texoma.

After spending a day on the lake, you may want to pop into town for a little shopping at one of Madill’s boutiques. Drop by local favorite Amazing Grace Boutique and browse their unique selection of women’s clothing, kitchen accessories, home goods and toys for the kids. Follow that up with a trip to Effie’s Unique Boutique where you can comb through an eclectic variety of vintage flair and funky finds at this colorful shop that’s a must-visit for anyone looking to liven up their closet.

After a day of shopping, grab a bite at La Grande Mexican Restaurant. This local favorite serves up all your Tex-Mex favorites like sizzling fajitas, delectable enchiladas and perfectly-fried chiles relleno in a vibrant atmosphere that’s fun for the whole family. If your taste skews more southern, be sure to stop by Hobo Joe’s Restaurant where you can enjoy traditional diner-style cuisine for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Of course, if you’re looking for a real taste of the region, you’ll want to stop in at one of the many fried catfish restaurants tucked away in the surrounding area.

Lake Texoma State Park

Home to Oklahoma’s second-largest lake and one of the premier striped bass fishing spots in the southwest, Lake Texoma State Park is the crown jewel of this region of Chickasaw Country. With plenty of swimming, camping, hiking and wildlife-watching opportunities, this state park gem is a great place to hit the water or take in the sights from shore. Whether you want to stay overnight at one of the park’s 200 tent sites or 88 full RV hookup sites, dive in for a day of swimming or hit the water on a guided fishing excursion with the Texoma Striper Guide Association, you’re sure to be in for an unforgettable day of outdoor recreation at Lake Texoma State Park.

To learn more about this unique part of the state after your Lake Texoma adventure, be sure to pay a visit to the Museum of Southern Oklahoma in Madill. This museum features American Indian artifacts, with an emphasis on Chickasaw items, along with various collections from the turn of the century that illuminate the history of southern Oklahoma. Come check out the museum’s permanent collection, and keep an eye out for special events like film screenings happening throughout the year.
