Along the edge of downtown Oklahoma City runs the scenic Oklahoma River, a 7-mile-long waterway that has reinvented outdoor recreation in the capital city. Three dams raise the level of the water, while two locks allow boats to travel down the river.

The Oklahoma River accommodates activities like kayaking, canoeing, dragon boating and more. OKC Riversport offers rental equipment for water sports, as well as pedal boat rentals. World-class facilities on the banks of the Oklahoma River also house impressive fitness and training areas. Recognized as a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site, the river attracts athletes from all over the world.

The Oklahoma River is a site for many events and festivals throughout the year, including the Oklahoma Regatta Festival, a three-day event celebrating watersports on the river. Oklahoma River Cruises offer rides down the river, from holiday-themed events to parties. Multiple 12-foot-wide, multi-use trails line the banks of both sides of the Oklahoma River for a total of 13 miles, providing a smooth, paved surface for runners or cyclists. Rod and reel fishing is also allowed in the Oklahoma River with a state fishing license and a city fishing permit.
