The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City's Adventure District features an internationally-renowned collection of Western art and artifacts. Sitting at the #1 spot on True West’s Top Western Museums of 2020, this unique institution has been welcoming millions of visitors from around the world since its opening in 1955.

From fine art, pop culture and Native American objects to historical cowboy gear and halls of fame, the figure of the cowboy tells America's Western story here. Begin and end your visit at James Earle Fraser's awe-inspiring sculpture "The End of the Trail," depicting a lone Native American on a weary horse. Move on to permanent galleries at the museum, including the American Cowboy, American Rodeo, Art of the American West and many other fascinating displays.

The museum's Prosperity Junction is a highlight for visitors of all ages. This fully constructed frontier cattle town with 19 buildings is an immersive exhibit with expansive 40-foot ceilings. The town stretches from an industrial section with a railroad depot, livery stable and blacksmith shop, to a residential section with homes, a church and a one-room schoolhouse.

From a playground and an interactive wagon to a Puebloan Cliff Dwelling and Kiowa tipi, bring the entire family to experience Western culture with engaging activities that bring history to life in the expansive Liichokoshkomo’ area.

The museum also hosts annual events like the popular Chuck Wagon Gathering & Children's Cowboy Festival or the prestigious Prix de West exhibition, an invitational art exhibit of over 250 Western paintings and sculptures by contemporary Western artists. The star-studded Western Heritage Awards honors hall of fame inductees and the year's best in literature, music, film and TV every April.

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is also home to a museum store, scenic gardens and a restaurant, all open daily. Several of the galleries and a variety of online exhibits can also be explored through the museum's website.
