The owner of Route 66 restaurant, The Boundary on 66, commissioned artist D. Wolf to tell the history behind the significance of the Luther barbecue joint through a mural painted on the side of the building. Before you head inside to chow down on a tasty rack of ribs, check out the black and white “Run of ‘89” mural to brush up on some Oklahoma history.

This mural depicts The Boundary on 66’s namesake, the Indian Meridian, which served as the eastern boundary during the 1889 Land Run. The rider in this painting likely represents those who rushed to the east boundary in their attempts at staking a claim to new land during the Land Run of 1889. The Indian Meridian, where The Boundary on 66 sits, also marks the true north-south line referenced by land deeds in the Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska regions.
