Spend a moment of quiet reflection at Geronimo's Grave in the Beef Creek Apache Cemetery. This Apache POW cemetery was created in 1894 and holds the remains of chiefs, warriors, scouts and families. It is also the final resting place of the great "Geronimo," born Goyathlay or Goyahkla who was revered for his ferociousness on the battlefield. Among the rows of identical white gravestones, Geronimo's grave stands out from the rest: a five feet tall pyramid created from local cobblestones and topped with an eagle. Many who visit this site leave a coin or small token of respect. As it is located within the Fort Sill Army Base, travelers will need to check in at the Visitor's Center with valid ID.
