We Believed in the Sun

Oklahoma City, OK 73103

In conjunction with the Tulsa Race Massacre centennial, Oklahoma Contemporary is celebrating the legacy of the Oklahoma City Civil Rights movement with the new exhibit "We Believed in the Sun" in its Mary LeFlore Clements Oklahoma Gallery. The exhibit pairs works by Oklahoma-born Ron Tarver, a recent recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in photography, and Ebony Iman Dallas, an OKC-based painter. The exhibition draws on Tarver’s and Dallas’ respective deep familial roots in the state, which have provided them with the critical intimacy to artistically explore both public and private perspectives on Black Oklahomans’ intergenerational struggle for equal opportunity and protection under the law.
