Embrace the fall season at Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center's Autumnal Equinox Walks. These special guided tours are offered at Oklahoma's only prehistoric Native American archaeological site open to the public. Archaeologist Dennis Peterson will discuss the powerful Caddoans who created the mounds between 900 and 1450 AD, how they became a very important leadership group and why some of the twelve mounds line up for the solstice and equinox sunsets. The Autumnal Equinox Walks give an educational insight into Oklahoma's prehistoric people. Each Autumnal Equinox Walk tour will be one mile of easy walking and about two hours in duration.
