May Day Celebration & Lawn Social
Step back in time and celebrate the arrival of spring at Hunter's Home in beautiful Park Hill during the annual May Day Celebration & Lawn Social. This 19th-century working plantation kicks off the growing season with living history demonstrators in period dress performing various activities of 1850 farm life.
The family-friendly event features live music, dancing, demonstrations such as spinning, weaving, plowing with draft animals, planting, cooking, tours of the mansion, and the ever-popular Maypole dance. Reminiscent of the social galas held at the Hunter's Home in the 1850s, living historians in period dress interact with the public and invite visitors to participate in select activities.
Pack a lunch along with a few quilts and join the re-enactors for a picnic on the lawn followed by a ton of great events including dance lessons, croquet, horseshoes and lawn games. Join the staff at the end of the day in a dance around the maypole to close the event and commemorate the start of the plantation's growing season.
