Continuing a centuries-old tradition of traveling education groups in the 19th and early 20th century United States, Lawton Chautauqua presents "2021 Chautauqua: Twentieth Century Visionaries".  Held at the Lawton City Hall Auditorium and the Museum of the Great Plains, this modern-day Chautauqua will present a variety of historical enactments, workshops, and informal discussions highlighting the vision and foresight of 20th-century characters who continue to influence our lives in the 21st century. Each day, a different scholar gives a presentation in character followed by a Q&A session with the audience, first in character, then as a scholar.

2021 Evening Performance Lineup:

Tuesday, June 16: Gene Roddenberry - The Ultimate Trekkie by Dr. Doug Mishler

Wednesday, June 17: Gertrude Bell - Queen of the Desert by Karen Vuranch

Thursday, June 18: Marshall McLuhan - Seer of Cyberspace by Dr. John Anderson

Friday, June 19: Marie Curie - Visionary Scientist by Susan Marie Frontczak

Saturday, June 20: Frank Lloyd Wright - Contrarian Architect by Dr. Ted Kachel

During the day at 10am and 2pm, there are two workshops held inside the Museum of the Great Plains exploring the West in more depth. Each workshop will be led by a different scholar about a topic pertaining to either his character or some facet of the historical time frame of his character.
