The McLoud Blackberry Festival, which began in the 1940s, is one of the oldest continual festivals in the state of Oklahoma. Originally, the festival combined the celebration of the annual blackberry harvest with a town picnic, but now it has grown into a larger event that showcases the community each and every year.
Activities run the first weekend of July. Blackberry-themed events include the selling of blackberries, blackberry cobbler, sodas and teas, plus the annual Blackberry Parade on Broadway Street in downtown McLoud and the Blackberry Royalty Pageant with crowning ceremonies Saturday afternoon. Come and enjoy an outstanding fireworks show at 10pm Saturday evening, as well as live band entertainment on Friday night and Saturday night with entertainment acts held throughout Saturday afternoon.
After the parade, enjoy children's games such as old-fashioned sack races and turtle races. In addition, the Blackberry Festival includes a carnival for the kids, various fair food vendors, craft and merchandise vendors, home improvement vendors and even a poker run.
