Mowdy Ranch Mustangs
Mowdy Ranch is Oklahoma's only ecotourism wild mustang ranch. Located 10 miles northeast of Coalgate, this 4,000 acre ranch has opened its land in southeast Oklahoma to over 150 wild horses, also known as American mustangs. Plan a visit to come see the horses for yourself on a one hour guided tour. Tours are available with advance reservation and allow guests to get up close and personal with the mustangs, although you may also spot some of the fallow deer or blackbuck antelope who call the land home. Be sure to bring along your camera, because photography is allowed.
Make your trip to Mowdy Ranch even better with an overnight stay in the lodge. The six bedroom, six bathroom lodge can accommodate up to 32 people. Four of the six bedrooms are suites that can sleep up to four people each, and the remaining two bedrooms are set up with bunk beds to sleep eight people each. Two fully stocked kitchens and a game room are also available. The Lone Ranger suite, Silver suite, Tonto suite and Scout suite can be rented out individually. In addition, individual bunks within the Gunsmoke and Rawhide bunkhouses are also available to rent for groups of four people or more.
Mowdy Ranch is owned by the Mowdy family, the fifth generation to work the ranch. It's also the Bureau of Land Management's second wild horse sanctuary in the United States.
