As part of Oklahoma’s Centennial Celebration in 2007, Dr. Palmer, an instructor at the University of Central Oklahoma, covered a handful of Bricktown walls in murals representing different aspects of Oklahoma history. One mural in particular was inspired by the well-known “Oklahoma!” musical.

This mural on E.K. Gaylord Blvd in downtown Oklahoma City celebrates the state centennial and transports viewers back in time to the early days of Oklahoma, where small towns and farm life overruled city streets. Those who take more than a cursory glance at this centennial mural will notice the oranges and yellows of the painting, creating the feel of a sunset lighting up the farm animals, crops and pioneers straight out of the “Oklahoma!” musical.
