Statehood Day Mural
410 4th St
In celebration of the Oklahoma centennial, the Alva Mural Society commissioned artist Roger Cooke to paint this “Statehood Day” mural. The mural reimagines Alva buildings and streets in true 1907 style, including a band uniform based on one found in the Cherokee Strip museum. Cooke also included faces of real people when he painted the band members and other townspeople in this Alva mural. Georgia Gerber also created a bronze statue in front of the mural in honor of Fred Wenninger, one of the founding Alva Mural Society members.
