Alva Mural Society commissioned Robbie Pierce and Jack Koonce to create this “Battle of Turkey Springs” mural in 2005. This historic mural represents an 1878 battle that took place 25 miles northwest of Alva. This armed conflict between the U.S. 4th Cavalry and Dull Knife and Northern Cheyenne warriors ended in a Cavalry retreat to Fort Supply. In the end, the presiding officer was court martialed, and the Cheyenne returned home to Wyoming and South Dakota.
