In 2015, the Muscogee Nation Cultural Center and Archives Department commissioned artist Yatika Starr Fields to create a mural on the Orpheum Theatre building. This Okmulgee mural ties elements of Muscogee culture into aspects of the Oklahoma town’s history. The ceremonial fire, stickball and ribbon dresses represent Muscogee culture and a hopeful view of moving into the future with these pieces of the past. Fields painted this mural in the middle of the OrangeFest celebration as part of efforts to revitalize downtown Okmulgee.
