Just before the Mother Road ends in western Oklahoma, stop into a renovated general store and restaurant for some souvenirs and down home cooking. Located in the historic border town of Texola, Tumbleweed Grill and Country Store, the self-proclaimed oldest working café on Route 66, is housed in a former 1930s beer joint, the Water Hole #2.

No matter what time of day, stop in seven days a week for breakfast, lunch or dinner. In proper diner fashion, breakfast is served all day at Tumbleweed, the food is homemade and the café features a daily soup and blue plate special. Be sure to check out the pastry case for the café’s selection of fresh made pie, cake and fudge.

After a satisfying meal at the Tumbleweed Grill, explore the ghost town of Texola, featuring a single cell Territorial Jail and the remnants of a once booming border town.
