Martin Luther King Jr. Parade
The Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and festivities in downtown Guthrie celebrate the life and legacy of a man who brought hope and healing to America. The inspirational parade theme of "Making a Difference Through My Service" pays homage to Dr. King's revolutionary spirit.
With stirring performances by Langston University and Guthrie High School marching bands, parade-goers are in for a treat at this family-friendly event. Led by Oklahoma Highway Patrolman Paul Timmons as Parade Marshall, the lineup will include floats from local clubs, churches, businesses, community action groups and law enforcement.
The parade will begin at 10am at the Scottish Rite Temple and proceed south on Oklahoma Ave to just west of Guthrie City Hall. Participants are encouraged to bring helium-filled balloons for release at City Hall to conclude the parade and attend a come-and-go reception at the Drexel Event Center located at 219 S Drexel immediately following to commemorate the values of courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility, and service that radiantly defined Dr. King's character and empowered his leadership.
