On August 19, 1958, members of the NAACP Youth Council walked into Katz Drug Store in Oklahoma City and requested to be served at the counter. Led by Clara Luper and 13 children, these few changed the world and lit a fire under the civil rights movement in Oklahoma City.

To honor their activism and bravery, the Clara Luper Legacy Committee will present a virtual program celebrating the 62nd anniversary of the beginning of the Oklahoma City sit-in movement on its website. Tune into this free event on August 19 that will include statements from Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt, Marilyn Luper Hildreth, Dr. Bob Blackburn, Jabee Williams and many others. As part of the event, viewers will be given a virtual tour of the Clara Luper exhibit at the Oklahoma History Center by Bruce Fisher, historian and curator of the exhibit.
