Start the year off on the right foot with a pair of first day hikes at Quartz Mountain. In order to practice safe social distancing, the park is requesting guests call the park office to schedule their hikes. Meetup at the park office at 6:15 for the sunrise hike. Hikers will then car caravan to the main boat ramp, amble down the beach and watch the sunrise over Lake Altus-Lugert for this easy stroll over mostly level terrain. The second hike also begins with a meetup at the park office at 9am. Hikers will then caravan to Cedar Valley for a brief discussion of the area's geologic history. Woodpeckers and nuthatches frequent the area, so don't forget to bring along your camera for this approximately one-mile hike.

Water and healthy snacks will be provided by the park, but be sure to pack your binocular, water bottle, dress appropriate for the weather and bring a camera or phone with well-charged batteries. The colder temperatures tend to rapidly drain camera batteries. Leashed pets are welcome.

Held in conjunction with America's State Parks First Day Hike initiative, this event offers individuals and families in all 50 states the opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and reconnecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike.
