Hooker is a Texas County community featuring small town charm and a growing number of locally owned businesses. The town was named for John Hooker Threlkeld, who received the "Hooker" nickname from being a top cattle roper. The town has developed the motto "It's a location, not a vocation" because of the humorous nature of its name. The quaint town features a bustling downtown area that maintains much of the same nostalgia it did in the early 1900s.
