First Day Hike

Mark your calendar for a visit to Robbers Cave State Park near Wilburton on January 1st for a free guided hike. Meet at Community Room #1 at 9am, located next to the Nature Center. Hikers can choose from two different hikes. One guided hike will be about 2.5 miles in length and take approximately 2 hours to complete. This hike will take participants to the top of the bluffs overlooking Lake Carlton and is of moderate skill level. Children must be carefully supervised along this trail due to the elevation changes. The second trail offered will be 1 mile in length through the Outdoor Classroom Trail and will take approximately 1 hour to complete. Be sure to bring your binoculars, a camera, water and appropriate dress for a cool weather hike. Before the hike, there will be hot chocolate, coffee, water, black-eyed peas and trail mix provided.They will also have a drawing for a free hiking stick with a Robbers Cave hiking medallion. The drawing is open for First Day Hike participants only. This event is held in conjunction with America's State Parks First Day Hikes initiative that will take place in all 50 states. The First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on the first day of the new year.
