Bartlesville Art Association will be hosting an ongoing workshop titled “Working With Color” on three Saturdays this fall.   Students will enroll for all three days: September 10, October 8, and November 12. Mary Russell, well-known Tulsa artist, will be holding this workshop at the Johnstone Park Art Center from 10 am to 3 pm each of these Saturdays. The cost of the entire workshop is $150.

By attending these three Saturdays, students will take part in a color study, which includes learning how to mix paint colors from a limited palette, what makes colors warm or cool, and how to change a color value through mixtures. Students will use this knowledge to practice painting, both in class and at home. These are basic lessons that artists of all levels can learn from.

With Russell’s lifelong study and artistic training of old master’s work, she works in methods that result in masterful contemporary paintings in a unique arrangement. Russell is a member of the Pastel Society of America and the Oil Painters of America. Her resume includes many awards and gallery exhibitions; with feature articles in Southwest Art magazine, American Artist magazine and American Art Collector. She was also selected as an exemplary artist, providing tips and instructions to the reader in the international publication entitled, “How Did You Paint That?”.

This workshop has several open spaces, but enrollment needs to be completed soon, as the class will begin on Saturday, September 10th. A list of supplies needed for the class will be sent after you register for the workshop. To register, please call Dedra Morgan at 918-285-0660 or contact her by email at
