Barnsdall, “the Community with the Big Heart,” celebrates its 5th Annual Big Heart Day this Saturday, May 28th. Offering something for just about everyone of any age, the variety and amount of activities planned is sure to please, says Claud Rosendale of the Barnsdall Chamber of Commerce.

“It all starts on Friday evening with a Christian program on Main Street, followed on Saturday with multiple kids’ contests, fishing competition, frog jump, turtle races, sack races, and much more.”

Add a Christian music contest; car, tractor and motorcycle contest and show; hot dog eating contests; a large parade featuring the City of Tulsa Pipe & Drum group; a major fireworks extravaganza set to patriotic music; good food and a variety of vendors, and you have a northeastern Oklahoma town demonstrating its welcoming, big heart, attitude.

“This event is a selling point for Barnsdall by letting residents and visitors know what the ‘Community with the Big Heart’ is all about,” Rosendale said.

Saturday’s activities begin with the 7 a.m. Fishing Contest for youngsters at Lake Waxahoma. Prizes worth up to $600 will be awarded various winners. Arts and crafts along with the concession booths open at 8 a.m., and other activities continue throughout the day.

Highlights include the Main Street Parade at 10:30, Kids Hot Dog Eating Contest at 2:30 and various bands beginning the evening’s entertainment at 6 p.m. The Grand Finale fireworks display at the East Main Street lot begins at 9:30 with the Tyler King Band rounding out the evening’s fun at 10:30.
