Call for Participants for Arts Trek 2011!
By Tourism Industry Partner
An arts adventure for all, Arts Trek 2011 is looking for talented people to join amazing artists, crafters, and performers from the Shawnee community and beyond to share their creative talents in order to promote awareness, participation, and appreciation of the arts in Shawnee.
Arts Trek is a family-friendly arts adventure composed of two components, an arts festival and a performance walk. During the performance walk (10am-12pm) visitors encounter varied and seemingly impromptu performances in non-traditional locations. The short performances occur in different locations on the St. Gregory’s University campus. The visitors follow a map and a guide, walking to each performance location in one large group. The walk ends on the grounds of the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art.
At the arts festival (10am-4pm), local artists and crafters display, demonstrate, and sell their arts in booths located inside and outside of the Museum. Local organizations and businesses provide free hands-on activities for children and adults, and visitors are invited to participate in a collaborative community artwork. Performers entertain visitors as they visit and shop the arts/crafts booths on the museum grounds.
Arts Trek is seeking talented artists, crafters, and related organizations to participate by having booths to display and sell their wares and by giving demonstrations. Musicians, dancers, poets, actors and singers from all genres are invited to volunteer their talents to create an engaging, entertaining atmosphere. Additionally, businesses and organizations are invited to promote the arts in Shawnee by sponsoring the event and/or manning activity booths. Finally, this event is only possibly through the participation of committed volunteers—we need you!
Information about the event and registration is available online at www.mgmoa.org/artstrek. The early-bird deadline for registration for visual and performing artists is March 15 (for prominent inclusion in publicity and participation) and the final deadline is March 25 (for participation).
Questions can be directed to Donna Merkt at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art at 405-878-5605 or email@example.com.
