(Norman, Okla) April 20, 2011— The University of Oklahoma School of Music presents the OU Symphony Orchestra in a Concerto Gala at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 1, Sharp Concert Hall. The concert, under the direction of Jonathan Shames, will feature winners of OU's Concerto Competition as well as a performance of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.

The concerto soloists include clarinetist Anastasia Besore, violinist Marat Gabdullin and piccoloist Elizabeth Hance. The concertos featured are the first movements of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, and Lowell Liebermann's Piccolo Concerto.

The concert begins with the Prelude to Act 3 of Wagner's opera Lohengrin and concludes with the Beethoven Fifth Symphony, perhaps the mostfamous and beloved of all symphonies.

The OU Symphony Orchestra is the student orchestra of the OU School of Music. The ensemble is comprised entirely of students, most of them music majors, and performs four to six times during each academic year in concert and also in collaboration with OU Opera Theater and the OU School of Dance.
