Rocklahoma Music Festival Raises Funds for Joplin Tornado Relief
By Tourism Industry Partner
PRYOR—After the record-setting Rocklahoma Memorial Day weekend camping and rock festival, Pryor Creek Music Festivals has announced they would make a $10,000 donation to the American Red Cross for Joplin Tornado Relief. Additionally, the Pryor Area Chamber of Commerce announced that another $1,000, which volunteers collected during the concert, would be added.
The promise will become reality on Tuesday, June 28, at 9:00 a.m. Rocklahoma management and the Pryor Area Chamber of Commerce will present an $11,000 check to the American Red Cross, at the Rocklahoma Festival site, 4 miles north of Pryor on Highway 69.
“This year’s festival exceeded our expectations,” said Dave Giencke, Operations Manager for Rocklahoma.” In addition to setting attendance records, the camping broke all previous year’s numbers. But we did not forget our neighbors in Joplin. We wanted to do something to help and made a commitment to make this contribution.”
“Each year the Pryor Area Chamber of Commerce organizes hundreds of volunteers to assist Rocklahoma guests throughout the festival,” Giencke said. “Business people and residents from throughout the region sign up with the Chamber to help us put a great hospitality face on the event and on the community.”
“Traditionally, the chamber volunteers collect tips and make a donation to an area nonprofit at each of our events, Giencke said. “Because Joplin is very near and because each year our Rocklahoma volunteer efforts have been tremendously supported by friends from Joplin, the chamber felt it was the project they wanted to support.”
“Rocklahoma and Pryor Creek Music Festivals has been a supporter of Pryor and Mayes County nonprofit efforts since the beginning,” said Pryor Area Chamber of Commerce President, Barbara Hawkins.
“Since coming to Pryor with their first event nine years ago, Pryor Creek Music Festivals management donated literally hundreds of thousands of dollars to schools, nonprofits and charitable concerns in our area. We could not have ever dreamed of having such a great corporate partner and tourism venue in our community. We are very grateful and proud to participate in the contribution to Joplin this year”.
