Since 1950, the third Thursday in May has been reserved for Armed Forces Day. This day allows people to show their support for servicemen and women and their families of all the branches of the military.

“It’s important that we honor the men and women of our country’s armed forces who are serving to protect us all. We believe this will be a fitting tribute to them and to their families,” said Richard Bales, Director of Tulsa County Parks Department.

The event includes live music, arts & crafts vendors, kids zone, concessions, open car show, and door prizes. Presentations and recognitions are planned throughout the day. All active-duty military, National Guard, Reserves and veterans and their families are invited to attend. A rain date is scheduled for Saturday, June 4, 2011.

The Tulsa County Parks promotes health and wellness, by providing opportunities in both natural and developed environments, where citizens and guests can enjoy recreation and leisure activities.
