Vince Gill has been performing live in Oklahoma ever since he was an elementary school student in Oklahoma City.  Visit the schools that fostered Vince’s love of music before settling in for a meal at Gill’s favorite local Mexican restaurant, where you just might see the country star if he’s in town for a show.  Continue your journey along this Vince Gill road trip and stop at Byron Berline’s famous fiddle shop, where the country legend has been known to perform impromptu jam sessions.

Stop 2: Cleveland Elementary School

The future country singer attended Cleveland Elementary School off 23rd Street during his younger years. Vince exhibited his talent early, playing his first public show while he still attended this Oklahoma City school. In 2008, he returned to Cleveland Elementary to perform a benefit concert, raising money to renovate the school’s auditorium.

Stop 4: Northwest Classen High School

Vince Gill's alma mater honored the country superstar when it unveiled a 9.5 foot statue of him and his favorite guitar, a 1952 Fender Telecaster. This art piece has been on display since October 2014. Vince Gill received his high school diploma from Northwest Classen in 1975 before setting off for Nashville.

Ted’s Café Escondido, Vince Gill’s favorite restaurant in Oklahoma City, serves delicious fajitas, tacos, enchiladas and more. Known around Oklahoma City as having some of the best Mexican food around, Ted’s often hosts Vince and his band when they’re in town for a show.

Stop 6: Double Stop Fiddle Shop

Vince Gill and Byron Berline, the owner of the Double Stop Fiddle Shop, have been friends since Vince joined Byron’s band Sundance during his early career. Vince has been known to stop by this shop to play guitar and perform with locals. He has also played at Byron Berline’s annual Oklahoma International Bluegrass Festival in Guthrie.
