Culinary Tour - True Flavors of Oklahoma

Day One

Afternoon – This afternoon we will begin at Sandy Springs Farm near Hinton for lunch and a tour of this buffalo ranch to enjoy scenic views and sightings of buffalo (allow 2 hours).

Evening – After checking into one of Oklahoma City’s hotels we will head to the Bricktown Entertainment District, a thriving entertainment district with a water canal, riverwalk, and an abundance of restaurants to choose from for dinner. Before or after dinner visit Put A Cork In It for some wine tasting and the Red Dirt Emporium to shop for some Made in Oklahoma products (allow 2-3 hours in Bricktown).

Day Two

Morning - This morning we meet a special entrepreneur, Betty Wood, the owner of the “Pepper Plant” Matador Processors in Blanchard. We will tour the production facility where taste tempting Chili Rellenos and many other products are created and shipped all over the United States and overseas. What was once a traditional Mexican item has evolved into an American made delicacy and Matador takes great pride in taking the Chile Relleno from field to finish (allow 1 ½ hours).

Afternoon – We arrive in Pauls Valley at the Bedre Chocolate Factory to satisfy our sweet tooth as we sample gourmet chocolates. On weekdays we can see the chocolate being manufactured with a viewing area that looks into an area of the plant. Of course there will be time to make purchases.  Don’t miss trying the chocolate covered potato chips (allow 45 minutes). Field’s Pies is a family owned business that began in Pauls Valley by selling homemade pies to their restaurant customers and now encompasses a 13,000 sq foot factory. Tours are available with prior arrangements when the plant is in operation and a discount store offers pies for sale outside the factory (allow 1 hour).

Evening – McAlester and Krebs both have a rich Italian heritage and we will enjoy some fine Italian cuisine at Pete’s Place or Isle of Capri in Krebs before settling into our hotel room in McAlester for the night (allow 1 ½ hours).

Day Three

Morning – After breakfast at the hotel we return to Krebs to visit Lovera’s Grocery and sample their homemade Italian sausage and cheeses and shop amid the shelves filled with gourmet food items (allow 1 hour).

Afternoon – Today we enjoy lunch in an Amish home where the food is served family style with all the fixings (allow 1 hour). We will stop in Chouteau at the Amish Cheese House for some shopping time where we find the shelves filled with a variety of items from cheeses, fudge, spices, noodles, plus much more (allow 30 minutes). We head to Broken Arrow for ice cream and a tour of the Blue Bell Creamery. Blue Bell is one of the top three sellers of ice cream in the country and we will learn why so many love it as we tour the factory to see how it is made and then enjoy some for ourselves after the tour in the Blue Bell Parlor and Gift Shop (allow 1 ½ hours).
