Plaza District Festival
1727 NW 16th St
The Plaza District Festival is quickly growing into one of Oklahoma City's most endearing annual art events, drawing a large audience of local art lovers. In celebration of the comeback of the revitalized Plaza District, the festival highlights a wide array of local performing artists, visual artists and musicians while providing interactive art education for the community. The festival is open to the public, drawing audiences from across Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas, and offers the surrounding neighborhoods an arts festival right in the heart of their community.
On Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, Oklahoma City’s Plaza District will come alive to celebrate local creativity with the annual Plaza District Festival. Participants in this year’s festival can enjoy live music, artist booths, kids’ art activities and a variety of local concessions. The annual event celebrates the progress of the Plaza District, a district once blighted by urban decay, now boasting a renewed energy embraced by a creative and diverse culture.
The Plaza District Festival is proud to exclusively host Oklahoma artists, performers and vendors, making this festival a truly local event. More than 35 Oklahoma artist booths will line 16th Street with an array of paper silhouettes, sculpture, soaps, designer dog treats, hand-crafted aprons and more. Mural artists will also live paint throughout the day's festivities. On two stages spread throughout the district, 20 local musicians and performers will entertain, too.
The festival is proud to host OECU’s Kidapalooza, a free interactive art experience for children and families. Kidapalooza features a wealth of kids’ educational art activities. Children can create art projects alongside art instructors from Norman Firehouse Art Center, as well as participate in creating collaborative sidewalk chalk murals. Other activities for children include face painting, homemade play dough sculpting, bubble pools, giant yard games, a blanket fort and corn hole. Kids can also select reasonably priced pieces of artwork to gift family members from the kids-only, pop-up Plaza Kid's Art Boutique.
Nine of OKC’s finest mobile food trucks will offer local food, complemented by beer, wine and shaved ice. Plaza District merchants will also be open for shopping throughout the event, also hosting an array of art openings, live music and special events.
