Robert S. Kerr Reservoir, located in the picturesque Cookson Hills country, lies on the Arkansas River about eight miles south of Sallisaw. With its many arms formed by tributary valleys, Kerr Lake has 250 miles of rugged, irregular shoreline. Observation decks at the visitors' center offer an excellent view of barges and pleasure craft passing through the lock on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System.
