Sand Springs is Oklahoma's only planned industrial town, springing to life in 1907 when oil man Charles Page envisioned a haven for orphans and widows and founded the town as a model city. Proximity to Tulsa has fueled Sand Spring's growth, but today the town is developing its own distinctive character stemming from its location at the nexus of a wide variety of cultural sites and natural treasures. The 1300-acre Keystone Ancient Forest Preserve is home to 300-year-old cedars and 400 and 500-year-old post-oak trees, all predating the birth of the U.S. More of the area's natural beauty and recreational opportunities are found in Keystone State Park, a family fun haven featuring 22 lake-view cabins with fireplaces, picnic areas, tent campsites, a children's fishing pond and hiking trails.
