Juneteenth Celebration
Make your way to Lawton for the annual Juneteenth festivities at Patterson Community Center. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. These celebrations date back to June 19, 1865, when General Granger landed in Galveston with the news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. As the news spread daily, it became known as Juneteenth.
In keeping with the traditions of Juneteenth, this Lawton event features an opening ceremony at 3pm, followed by food, music, activities, games and entertainment for the entire family. This event is free and open to the public.
