Experience winter at a slower pace during Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center's Winter Solstice Walks. These special guided tours are offered at Oklahoma's only prehistoric Native American archaeological site and inspire an appreciation for the natural rhythm of nature and the seasons.

Archaeologist Dennis Peterson will tell about the powerful Caddoans who created the mounds between 900-1450 AD, how they became a very important leadership group and why some of the 12 mounds line up to solstice and equinox sunsets. Learn about the history of excavations, American Indian ceremonies and tales of unusual happenings associated with the mounds. Each tour is one mile of easy walking and about two hours in duration.
