World's Tallest Man Mural
513 Barnes St
In 2013, Alva Mural Society commissioned artists Jim Richey & Hanson Long to create a mural in honor of the world’s tallest man in recorded history, Robert Pershing Wadlow. In 1940, 8-foot-8 ¼ Wadlow came through Alva on a promotional tour for the Peters Shoe Company. Wadlow and his father arrived in their specially modified 1938 Ford sedan when he was 21 years old, as depicted in this “World’s Tallest Man” mural. The 22-year-old died a few months after his visit to Alva.
