My Morning Jacket in Concert
Enjoy an evening of wide-ranging, experimental Americana when My Morning Jacket takes the stage at Criterion in Oklahoma City.
Nearly two decades ago, Jim James, aka Yim Yames, formed My Morning Jacket as an outlet for his acoustic songs, recording and releasing “The Tennessee Fire.” The record did fairly well in the United States, but really up in Europe, particularly in the Netherlands. With the release of the band’s sophomore effort, "At Dawn," word about My Morning Jacket, or MMJ for short, began to spread back home in the States. The veritable combination of James’ distinctive voice, heart-wrenchingly honest lyrics and the band’s non-stop work ethic helped not only garner a tremendous word-of-mouth following, but also culminated in the release of their breakthrough records, “It Still Moves” and “Z.” Over the course of the next decade, the band has continued to explore fresh acoustic highways, releasing multiple albums along the way and constantly expanding the horizons of Americana and Alt-Country music.
Be sure to catch special guests The Barr Brothers. Hailing from Montreal, this Americana quartet’s tight songwriting, musicianship and fearless acoustic exploration should dovetail nicely with My Morning Jacket.
