Guided By Voice in Concert
Join Guided by Voices for a delightful evening of lo-fi alternative music when the band stops at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa.
Hailing from Dayton, OH, Robert Pollard began tooling around with home recording in the mid-1980s, along the way he perfected and began playing jangly, power pop songs with his band, Guided By Voices. These prolific masters of the 4-track cassette recorder built a cult following in the early 1990s by word-of-mouth and selling hand illustrated copies of their garage recorded music at shows. When the band released “Bee Thousand” in 1994, the underground world took notice and Guided By Voices quit their day jobs to make music full time. This seminal record has been called one of the best records of the ‘90s by Spin and Pictchfork magazines and rated as #1 on the 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums of all Time by Amazon.com.
Never one to slow down, Pollard and Guided by Voices kept plugging along, releasing a steady score of indy pop records, EPs and singles that have influenced some of the most recognizable songwriters and musicians. You won't want to miss this night of musical genius.
Be sure to show up early and check out Norman, Oklahoma’s own Broncho on opening duties. Founded in 2010, this roughneck pop-punk quartet has continued to explore sonic dreamscapes, crafting a sound tinged with the punk sensibilities and 1980s college radio.
