Patrick Lynch Public Library in Poteau contains a genealogy section with many resources. Many early Le Flore County courthouse records and newspapers from the area are available on microfilm, as well as census records from 1900-1920. Other records available in the library include all Le Flore County school records from the early 1920s to present, Choctaw Nation marriage records from 1890-1907, service records from both World War I and II and Oklahoma land transactions from 1901-1907. 

The Genealogy Department of Patrick Lynch Public Library offers volunteer assistance and online resources to make research a bit easier. Ancestry and Heritage Quest, both subscription websites, are offered free of charge at the library. For a fee, the Poteau Valley Genealogy Society will do research in the library and complete family charts. Genealogy meetings are open to the public and are held in the library on a regular basis.
