Discover how the Tillman County Heritage Barn Quilt Trail in Frederick combines art, creativity and heritage in unique ways as you explore this beautiful part of the state. Along the trail, you'll see more than 50 barn quilts on houses, garages, fences, barns and downtown buildings in a variety of sizes and designs. From traditional stars and other quilt patterns to modern designs and logos, this barn quilt series offers a colorful way to see Tillman County. You can find maps and instructions at the Frederick Chamber of Commerce, Very Good Coffee Co, Box Inc, KC’s and Frederick Ace Hardware, or download the map and take the tour whenever you'd like.

Today’s barn decorating revival became popular in 2001 when Donna Sue Groves of Adams County, Ohio, decided to honor her mother by hanging a colorfully painted quilt square on her barn. Instead of stopping at one quilt square, she began a community project with twenty quilts squares being displayed along a driving trail to encourage visitors to travel through the countryside. This was the start of the first quilt trail in America. A growing trend, barn quilts are displayed around communities and then mapped out for tourists to follow these amazing works of art.

Two Frederick residents, Jeanie Scott and Annette Rowe, began making barn quilts after seeing a similar tour. The ladies set up a booth at Arts ‘N Action, where a number of local residents joined the creative excitement that led to the formation of Tillman County Barn Quilt Trail. Barn quilts come in a variety of sizes of reinforced wood and can be made to fit a particular business logo or home colors.
